Overview
|
Mayor Thomas M. Menino started the Boston 2:00-to-6:00 After-School Initiative in 1998 to promote new learning and social development opportunities for children and youth during their out-of-school time. We recognize that one of the most pressing challenges facing organizations in the out-of-school time field is the difficulty of finding and retaining high quality staff. We hope the Boston Out-of-School Time Employment Webpage will assist in linking jobseekers with available positions by:
- Allowing organizations to advertise, free of cost, employment and volunteer opportunities within their programs related to out-of-school time and;
- Offering job seekers and/or potential volunteers a tool to search for out-of-school time positions related to their interests and qualifications.
On July 1, 2004, the Boston 2:00-to-6:00 After-School Initiative became part of Boston After School & Beyond, a new 501(c)(3) organization, that was created by combining 2:00-to-6:00 with Boston's After-School for All Partnership. Boston Beyond grew out of a year-long planning process funded by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. Boston Beyond is a public/private partnership to organize the many networks and organizations that make up the out-of-school time field into a coherent system with the goal of expanding access to high-quality programming for all of Boston's families. This new effort represents the logical next step for Boston 2:00-to-6:00 in that it furthers Mayor Menino's goal of building the out-of-school system to ensure high-quality opportunities for all of the city's young people.
