Amy K. Murray Memorial Scholarship

Sponsored by South Boston Neighborhood House
Description: Amy served for many years at the Neighborhood House. In her last position, she was the Director of Adolescent Programs. While there, she obtained combined Masters Degrees in Pastoral Ministry and Social Work. She originally came to South Boston as a one-year volunteer, split between St. Brigid's and the Neighborhood House. She was housed with Sr. Ann Fox on Fifth Street during that time. Amy fell in love at first sight with South Boston, and she never left. She died suddenly and tragically at 29 from complications while undergoing surgery. She had lived in many places. She welcomed people from all over. Amy will not be forgotten - her spirit still lives in the halls of the Neighborhood House. The scholarship seeks to recognize and support outstanding youth volunteers inspired by the spirit and legacy of Amy K. Murray.
Eligibility: Any high school senior in good standing, who has plans for further schooling, is eligible to apply. Living or attending school in South Boston is not a requirement; membership in the Neighborhood House is not necessary. The key qualification is the chosen senior's dedication to volunteer work and community service. While being in good standing in school is essential, the Amy K. Murray Scholarship is not an academic award. It is for the qualities Amy possessed - warmth, dedication, inclusiveness, service, and vision.
