Crew Supervisors (BYCC)

The Crew Supervisor will make certain of the following

  • Enforce and explain to the crew workers all items that are set forth in the program manual.
  • To work along side crew workers and to do anything and everything that you ask of them.
  • To conduct yourself in a proper fashion during work hours and with the workers.
  • Ensure that each youth works in a safe manner. In case of an accident, follow the proper procedures that are outlined during training.
  • An accident report must be filled out for any crew member who misses work because of a work related reason, no matter how trivial (i.e. poison ivy) These accident reports must be given to the neighborhood supervisor at the end of each day.
  • Insure that the crew performs work at all BYF scheduled times (i.e. daily schedule must be strictly followed as outlined in the program manual).
  • To be responsible for the distribution, collection, maintenance as well as upkeep of all program equipment.
  • All work must be completed to BYF standards as outlined during training.
  • Insure that all individuals under your supervision have completed all necessary paperwork so that they will receive a pay check.
  • Supervise the youths on a daily basis under the direction of your neighborhood supervisor and all other directives that fall under the lines outlined in BYF manual.
  • Report to the program base at the start and conclusion of each day.
  • Oversee the completion of daily attendance sheets while the youth sign in and out.
  • Record daily work results (i.e. number of bags of trash accumulated, amount of streets and lots cleaned, as well as a description of the type of work completed) and report it, this must be printed neatly
  • Give an exact location on all trash sheets for any trash or chipping that needs to be picked up.
  • Separate and trash and chipping materials for the proper pick up, and have all stumps facing in one direction for the chipper crew. Improper piling of work site debris may lead to crew wide docking for failure to follow this rule. Work site debris should always be left at the most accessible location for removal. Do not block any passage for pedestrians on sidewalks.
  • Make sure bags are not too heavy (i.e. with dirt or rocks).
  • Distribute all program requisitions in conjunction with the Neighborhood Supervisor / Back Bay Director.
  • Record and report any problems to the Neighborhood Supervisor immediately, or call 440 Park Drive (635-4202) for any instance which warrants immediate attention.
    1. Report any needles found to the Neighborhood Supervisor and mark the area. Do not touch the needle. We will contact the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
    2. Notify the Neighborhood Supervisor for any found weapons. Do not touch them and report them to your Neighborhood Supervisor.
    3. Report any dead animals to your Neighborhood Supervisor who will notify rodent control. Do not touch the animal or put it in the trash.
  • Assist the Neighborhood Supervisor and Back Bay maintenance yard supervisor in soliciting and securing all equipment and prerequisites as needed.
  • Follow the scheduled clean-up projects set forth by your Neighborhood Supervisor, unless directed otherwise by your Neighborhood Supervisor, a Citywide Supervisor, Operations Director or the Executive Director.
  • Conduct environmental survey of area scheduled to be cleaned and report any trouble spots to the Neighborhood Supervisor for inclusion in the master list.
  • Participate in supervisor training, youth orientation, and any other training provided by the Boston Youth Fund.
  • Provide an ongoing technical training and limited counseling for the youths throughout the program's duration (i.e. money management, life skills, work skills, etc.).
  • Become familiar with other services available to youths and encourage them to participate where appropriate.
  • Maintain and be responsible for the upkeep of any program vehicle (if made available). Maintain accurate records of mileage and gas usage. Vehicles may only be used in an official capacity during the program's operation hours.
  • To attend mandatory daily meetings with your Neighborhood Supervisor, unless excused previously by your Neighborhood Supervisor. Attend all meetings requested by your Neighborhood Supervisor, a Citywide Supervisor, Operations Director or the Executive Director.
  • Conduct your performance evaluations at the conclusion of the program (including individual interviews and written youth performance evaluations). Present all evaluations to your Neighborhood Supervisor upon completion, failure to do so could cause a delay in receipt of your last paycheck.
  • Complete written youth evaluations at the conclusion of the program.
  • Carry out all other responsibilities deemed necessary and so directed by the BYF senior staff.
  • Smoking is NOT allowed, only during break time!!! This is for all employees.
  • All crews are to walk to their work sites.
