Community Based Organizations (CBO)
The BYF is comprised of many different kinds of Community Based Organizations (CBOs) where hopeline applicants are placed for summer jobs. The expansion of the CBOs helps to create new and exciting opportunities for Boston teens. Youth employed through these programs encounter experiences that assist them in identifying what it is that they would like to do in the future. Positions awarded through the BYF are in many different fields, such as photography, tour guides, receptionists and recreational specialists (baseball, football, etc.). Countless others also serve as athletic instructors, day care assistants, administrative assistants and mural painters.

Our partnership with the New England Aquarium is a perfect example of how the BYF is broadening the horizons of Boston’s teens. This year, thousands of people were taught by BYF teens at the Aquarium. BYF employees learn about the Aquarium, are tested on that information, and then use their newly acquired knowledge to educate visitors by hosting tours and exhibits throughout the summer.
Another organization that has been participating in the BYF program for years is the Colonel Daniel Marr Boys and Girls Club. The Boys and Girls Clubs offer programs in areas such as; arts, education, childcare, recreation, career exploration, and leadership development. BYF youth that work at the Dan Marr serve various arenas throughout the Club including maintenance, reception, and office support, feeding programs, and outdoor play area staff.
