The mission of Anchor Literacy Academy (ALA) is to create a community of lifelong learners by providing 20 Boston Public School (BPS) students agest 12-15 who are at risk of failing or dropping out of school, or who have been expelled from BPS, with an alternative middle school program. While students are at Anchor Literacy Academy, we hope to increase school attendance, to improve academic performance, to address social emotional needs, to affect positive behavior changes and to increase parent/guardian involvement. Anchor Literacy Academy uses a hands-on, project-based approach that improves students' basic academic skills through individulatized interdisciplinary projects, homework assistance, tutorial support and MCAS preparation.
